Posti's change negotiations: need for redundancies significantly reduced in Tampere postal center and in the delivery of unaddressed mass mailings
The effects of the reorganization of the Tampere postal center and the service changes related to the delivery of unaddressed advertisements and other mass mailings have been addressed in the change negotiations that started in May and have now ended. The need for reductions was significantly reduced during the negotiations. This was significantly influenced by voluntary decisions of the people in the target group. Voluntary decisions include pension arrangements, applying for training or new jobs in Posti or outside the company. Posti supports the personnel in the change.
The negotiations also considered the ability to deliver the services in a cost-effective manner and as promised to customers.
The need for redundancies in Tampere postal center decreased to less than a third, in delivery it was almost completely reduced
The negotiations in Tampere were influenced by the investments in new sorting machines to improve mail handling efficiency and the centralization of mail handling in Helsinki. The reorganization of the center, which will become a logistics center, will strengthen its ability to better meet the needs of e-commerce customers as part of Posti's nationwide parcel sorting network.
In addition, Posti announced its plan to remove unaddressed advertising deliveries and other mass mailings such as free magazines from its service offering from the beginning of 2025. The negotiations are the result of a major market change, which requires Posti to continuously evaluate the functionality and viability of its services in the long term.
At the start of the negotiations, the total number of reductions in the Tampere postal center was estimated at a maximum of 120. During the negotiations, the estimated need for redundancies was reduced to a maximum of 34 people. For unaddressed deliveries, the overall reduction was estimated at a maximum of 130 at the start of the negotiations. During the negotiations, the estimated need for redundancies was reduced to a maximum of 3 people.
"The spirit of the change negotiations was constructive. Together with personnel representatives, we found a variety of voluntary ways to offer to the personnel. We will continue to support our personnel during the change. The reorganization will have no impact on our customers or our services", says Ari Mäntyvaara, responsible for Tampere postal center.
"As for the unaddressed deliveries, our aim from the beginning was to implement the planned changes in a way that would minimize the redundancies. Negotiations were conducted in good spirits with personnel, and we could reduce the number of redundancies through, for example, pension and other arrangements. For our customers we continue to offer a wide range of addressable services", says Mikko Hoikkala, responsible for Postal Services' operations.
